Description
Scientific American had a strong of articles that focused on life in Long Island. Because it was an up and coming area for many people, it was seen as an interest if people, either rich and able to afford a vacation home in one of the luxury locations, or a middle class city dweller who dreams of having a home like that to go too. The reason Lilly Bart is so interested in going to Long Island is because of the perceived value it holds. Many rich people hold a perceived value that Long Island is a cultured location by the sea- it is a beautiful sea side resort, close enough to the city to take a weekend trip- but far enough away that a person really could ‘get away’ from their city life to relax. This is the reason many richer people go to Long Island, and why woman, like Lilly, want to inhabit it more often. A person who spends time in Long Island is perceived to be wealthy and of a higher culture.
