Description
The article that I chose talks about the remodeling of Grand Central Station, and all of the new things they added. It expresses on how much detail they had taken on building this station. In The House of Mirth the Grand Central Station was an important, but not talked about much, in the novel. This is where Lilly had first met Selden, who played an important role in her life. Throughout the story the characters would always talk bad about New York city, but never Grand Central Station. They would bring up how it would be crowded at times, but they would never say it was overly dirty, or not nice. That is exactly what the author of the article was saying. The author said, "Anyone who has had occasion to use the Grand Central Station during its process of reconstruction from the show railroad terminal of 1869 into one of the greatest architectural achievements of 1911 that man could make..." (Unknown). By the book and the article, Grand Central Station in 1911 must have been beautiful.
