Description

This photo of a farmhouse in Georgia depicts an image of what Mr. ___'s house may have looked like in "The Color Purple." African Americans living in Georgia in this time period tended to live in smaller houses since they did not have a lot of money. Therefore, this image gives us clues that houses in this time period owned by African Americans in the south were smaller and often run down. What we know about Mr. ___'s house is that it is on a farm in Georgia. This is also where Celie moved once she married Mr. ___, who beat Celie like no other. She continued to live here until she couldn't take it any longer and temporarily moved to Tennessee with Shug. This house is a very important place in the book because it is where Celie started a new, but not much better, chapter in her life after being beat and raped by her father at her old house.
