Memphis, Tenn. A sign on the entrance to a rooming house on Beale Street

Dublin Core

Title

Memphis, Tenn. A sign on the entrance to a rooming house on Beale Street

Creator

Wolcott, Marion Post

Date

1939 October

Description

It is a sign to a room for rent as was common during the time period. Shug's house however was a large estate which was far less common. This difference helps to illustrate how much Celie's life has changed. She goes from a small abusive home to a large house where she finds herself.
