Description

The article is an editorial from a concerned citizen to a Christian magazine with concerns regarding religion in the English Navy. He expresses the lack of bishops overseeing Chaplains on the ships and how when ships are stationed in harbors, the different Bishops in the area that could be of help. Chichester and Portsmouth bishops, both being referenced. The writer emphasizes the advantages of religion in the navy has heightening morality and faith among the men which would be of good use during times of war.

This article is relevant to Charlotte Temple because religion and faith are a huge part of the story. Montraville, a navy man, obviously has no morals because he takes Charlotte away from her innocent life and seduces her then leaves her. As well as, this taking place in Chichester.
