Description

This source is advertising a ladies school in Sussex, which is a part of Chichester. This document relates to the novel in that Charlotte Temple attended a ladies school. The ladies school that Charlotte attended directly links to the progression of the novel. At Madam Du Pont's school Charlotte met Mademoiselle La Rue, who encouraged Charlotte to leave with Montraville. This advertisement description is extremely similar to the description of the school Charlotte attended. The text mentions that every care and attendance will be taken in then care and education of the ladies attending the school. This is extremely similar to the description of Madam Du Pont in the novel. She is described as being responsible and readily able to take care of the ladies attending the school. Furthermore, the advertisement references how care will be taken in the morals of the ladies. This is similar to the novel as the goal of Charlotte's school was to mold the young ladies so that they behave morally. However, Charlotte contradicts both the advertised school and the school in the novel by eloping with Montraville. Furthermore, the school in the novel and the advertised school are both described as a mansion house. This shows similarities between both schools in their similar layout, grounds, gardens, and structure. The boarding school that Charlotte attended in the novel is extremely similar to the advertised boarding school. These similarities draw interest and intrigue, and further shed light onto what Charlotte's life could have looked like.
