Description

As young men left the world of Farming in Maine behind them, the local economies suffered. The allure of gold in California was great and in reality, unrealistic. Young men and some old men lined up in the hundreds with what little money they had to venture across country for their share of the money.

In the case of Mr. Amory, he did not necessarily seek these rewards, but they seemed to find him. While his lust for gold was not nearly as sickening as many of the men that traveled across country risking life and limb for the rewards, he did in fact catch some of the fever that money can give to young men. But more importantly a very dear family heir loom was returned to him through a strange sequence of events.
