Description

In the Lamplighter, Graham’s country house contained old-fashioned entrances on both sides with a sloped and shady lawn. From the novel, we know that the family was rich, which makes readers predict that the house was definitely nice considering that it had a library on the inside and a garden on the outside. The area in which the house stayed at included no woods, brooks, and pastureland, which meant that the area was very secluded.

Now the source that I found contained a house that belonged to J.W. Edmands, which was a house located on Newton Centre where it is one of the finest houses near Boston. The house is placed on rising ground with trees and shrubs that make the land shady. As we know from the book, this same description is pretty similar to Graham’s house. This source shows what kind of houses were build at the time of when the book took place, which helps give better descriptions of what other things the house may have contained that the book doesn’t give. For instance, WM. F. Homer’s Residence was a house that was built in the shape of a square, which could have been a style of Graham’s house because we don’t know what specific style house he lived in.
