It describes elements of Washington St such as winding, strangely constructed buildings, and the new Washington Building which has started the conversion from old to new. Washington St. is also a place where “Money is advanced bolding and lavishly for the erection of commanding structures, many of which exceed in grandeur and commercial edifices in the cities of the old world,” meaning Washington St. is a place coming up in the professional world through investment of making old building fit into a new style. In the novel, it turns out that the money that she earned came from Trenor who came up with the idea of her owing him back or just hanging out with him. Since she is already interested in Percy, she chooses to owe him the money back. The source that I found has to do with women gambling in the stock market, which is similar to how Lily gambled while playing bridge. The creator is an anonymous name, hence the "One of Them". It actually mentions how playing bridge was a thing and how women have found a new game that involves investing in the stock market where they own a stock, which helps them gain ten or twenty dollars on every five invested when the market goes up ten or twenty points. It talks about how the economy had shifted downward because of the world war, which caused females to lose money. It then goes into detail on how there are crooked firms in Wall street who try to sell worthless stocks to women because they feel that they are not as calm and calculating than men. In short, this source really explains the horrors of gambling in the stock market, which can be used when reading about when Lily invested in the stock market.
