Bennett Date The date the document or image was originally published or created, in YYYY-MM-DD format (see fields guide for further details) 1897-01-09 Description Describe key features of the primary source and how they help to answer the research question at hand (usually the significance of a space or place to a text and/or its author or readers) This is a report that was issued as an update on the construction of a bridge between New York City (Lilly Bart’s home) and Long Island (a place that she often visited on a pleasurable vacation (like to the Gormers’ elegant country home in Chapter 6, book 2). This report shows how the bridge of connection between the two locations was in preparation of becoming finished. This shows how popular the location was (they had to build a bridge specifically from the city to the location because so many people from the city were flocking there either for a vacation, or, like in Great Gatsby, to have an actual home year round. This is a very popular place to visit, thus a bridge was to be built directly over the East river (which means people can take a train directly from the city- no detours). This, again, shows the popularity of the location for the rich. The bridge, as stated in the report, was originally not going to be built, but was continued due to the popularity of the destination. It was also noted that the location was updated to make sure an end date was set. This is an extra precaution to ensure that the project is finished. In this time, a lot of construction was being done, so many projects were left unfinished, or even delayed for an indefinite amount of time.
