It includes comprehensive geographical details, with in depth information of history of various important buildings such as churches, and picturesque portrayal of streets and the harbor. Life in New York in 1786 was also discussed in great details; the hobbies of men and women and their options of entertainment. The economy of New York was also discussed exhaustively. The story Charlotte Temple has a significant portion of its plot in happening in New York; Charlotte lives in a cottage on the outskirts of New York, and later travels on foot to the city in hopes of finding La Rue to receive help. Montraville, the man who had convinced Charlotte to elope with him, marries Julia later in the story, a girl from a wealth family who resided in New York. This article is thus greatly relevant since it gives us an insight to life in New York in 17th century. The area of focus is the harbor of New York, the place where Charlotte, Montraville and the rest of the group arrive at after making the trip from England. This article includes description of a harbor in New York that was heavily fortified with cannons to defend against enemy ships from England.
