<text>This primary source tells a story of a man from Germany, Gottlieb Mittleberger who travels to Pennsylvania in 1750. His journey starts on a ship primarily filled with poor immigrants who become indentured servants upon arriving in Philadelphia.

The diary elaborates on the struggles Mittleberger faced during his long voyage and pin points the time frame, the size of the ship, and other details he witnessed in the ship. This source is helpful to the audience because it tells a story about someone who went through the journey from the person himself.

Mittleberger writes about the hygiene, the people, and the ship itself over and over again. The information given helps the audience get information about the time frame, the struggles, the sail, and the speed of the ship.
