Three women and one man hoeing in field.
Dublin Core
Title
Three women and one man hoeing in field.
Creator
William Edgar Burghardt Du Bois (Collector)
Date
1899 or 1900
Description
The image depicts three women tending to the fields, and a lone man . It is counter-intuitive to think that the women would be doing the harder, manual labor, but this was common during this era for African Americans. We saw this frequently during the book "The Color Purple". Celie and Nettie tending to the fields even at a young age, with only minimal help from the men, except Harpo later in the book.
